Privacy Policy
Effective date: 15 May 2026
Who we are
Daily Murder: Mystery Puzzle ("the App", "the Website") is developed and operated by Mark Andrews, trading as Keep Computing, based in the United Kingdom.
- Website: dailymurder.com
- Developer: keepcomputing.co.uk
- Contact: [email protected]
This policy covers both the Android app (available on Google Play) and the website at dailymurder.com.
What data we collect
Playing without an account
Your puzzle progress, settings, and streak data are stored locally on your device using browser or app storage. None of it leaves your device. We do not collect any personally identifiable information from anonymous players.
When you sign in
If you create an account via Google, Facebook, or email, we receive:
- Your email address
- Display name and profile photo (from your sign-in provider)
- A unique provider user ID
We use this to identify your account, sync progress across devices, and verify purchases. If you set a username or avatar within the App, that is stored on our servers alongside your account.
Social features
If you use social features (friends, leagues, badges), we store:
- Your friend list and friend requests
- League placements and tier history
- Badges earned and featured badge selections
- Kudos (reactions) you send or receive
Your username and featured badges are visible to other players. Your email address is never shared with other users. If your profile is set to public, your scores appear on leaderboards; otherwise only friends see your data.
Analytics (website)
On the website, we use a first-party analytics system hosted on our own servers. This collects:
- A random session identifier (generated fresh each visit, not a cookie)
- Pages visited and events (such as puzzle starts and solves)
- Country (your IP address is used to look up your country via a local database and to enforce rate limits, but is not stored directly; only an anonymised country code is recorded)
- Device type, browser, and operating system (from your user agent string)
- Referring URL (the page that linked you here)
This data is anonymous for players who are not signed in. For signed-in players, events are associated with your account to help us understand engagement patterns. We do not use any third-party analytics on the website. No tracking cookies are set.
Analytics and crash reporting (Android app)
The Android app uses Firebase Analytics and Firebase Crashlytics (both operated by Google) to help us understand how the App is used and to identify crashes.
Firebase Analytics collects:
- App events (puzzle starts, solves, purchases, feature usage)
- Device information (model, OS version, screen size)
- General usage patterns (session length, screen views)
Firebase Crashlytics collects:
- Crash reports and stack traces
- Device state at the time of a crash (OS version, memory, battery)
- Non-fatal error logs from specific App features
Analytics and crash data is processed by Google under their Firebase privacy terms. We do not sell this data or share it beyond what Google processes on our behalf. Analytics collection is disabled in debug and development builds.
Google Play Games Services
On Android, the App connects to Google Play Games Services for achievements, leaderboards, and cloud backup. This is managed by Google under Google's Privacy Policy.
Advertising
Android app: Advertisements are provided by Google AdMob. AdMob may collect device identifiers, IP address, and general location data to serve ads. You can manage ad personalisation in your device settings. See Google's Advertising Policies.
Website: The website displays promotional banners for other apps by Keep Computing. These are served locally with no third-party ad networks, cookies, or tracking.
If you purchase the Detective's Pass, all advertisements are suppressed on both platforms.
Purchases
Android app: In-app purchases are handled by Google Play. We receive a purchase verification token to confirm your entitlement. We do not receive your payment card details or billing address.
Website: Web purchases are processed by Stripe. You are redirected to a Stripe-hosted checkout page to complete payment. We receive confirmation of your purchase and your email address for receipt purposes. We do not handle or store card details.
Feedback
If you send feedback through the App or website, we receive the text you type and, optionally, your email address if you choose to provide it. Feedback is stored on our servers and associated with your account if you are signed in.
How we use your data
- Sync your puzzle progress, scores, and streaks across devices
- Verify purchase entitlements and suppress ads for paying users
- Show achievements, leaderboard rankings, and social features
- Serve advertisements to free-tier users
- Identify and fix crashes and technical problems
- Understand how features are used so we can improve the App
- Respond to feedback and support enquiries
We do not sell, rent, or share your personal data with third parties for their marketing purposes.
Third-party services
The App and website use the following third-party services, each with their own privacy policies:
- Firebase — authentication, analytics (app), crash reporting (app)
- Google Play Games Services — achievements, leaderboards, cloud save (app)
- Google AdMob — advertising (app)
- Stripe — payment processing (website)
- Cloudflare — CDN and security (website and app content delivery)
- Facebook Login — optional sign-in provider
Cookies and local storage
Website: We do not set our own tracking cookies. We use browser sessionStorage for anonymous session identifiers that are cleared when you close your tab. localStorage is used to save your game state and preferences locally on your device.
Android app: The App uses device-local storage for game data and preferences. Firebase and AdMob may use their own local storage for their respective functions.
Data storage and security
Account data is stored on servers we operate, hosted in the United Kingdom. Authentication is managed by Firebase, which uses industry-standard encryption in transit and at rest. Our backend API communicates exclusively over HTTPS. Game data stored locally on your device is not encrypted.
Analytics data collected on the website is stored in a separate database on our servers. Firebase Analytics and Crashlytics data is stored by Google on their infrastructure.
We retain your account data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, all associated data (including solve history, social connections, badges, league placements, and feedback) is permanently removed within 30 days.
Your rights
Under the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR) and similar laws, you have the right to:
- Access the personal data we hold about you
- Correct inaccurate personal data
- Delete your account and all associated data
- Export your data in a portable format
- Object to processing of your personal data
- Withdraw consent at any time by signing out or deleting your account
To exercise any of these rights, email [email protected] or use the account deletion page.
Children's privacy
The App is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, contact us and we will delete it promptly.
Changes to this policy
We may update this privacy policy from time to time. Changes are posted on this page with an updated effective date. Continued use of the App or website after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
